WESTERLY — Westerly police were investigating a shooting in the area of Marriott Avenue that left one person dead on Saturday afternoon.
The police were called at about 4 p.m. with the report of a possible shooting, and a bulletin was released about a half hour later for a black male suspect who was driving a car with Connecticut plates.
Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey confirmed that the victim had been declared dead and that the car had been found in Connecticut. Marriott Avenue in the North End was blocked off as the police conducted an investigation.
Several hours later, Lacey, in a report, said the suspect was at large in Connecticut. Further reports from Ledyard said officers from the Ledyard and Mashantucket Tribal departments were looking for the man, who was said to be on foot, and residents were warned to stay indoors and call 911 if they saw anything suspicious.
