CHARLESTOWN — A driver was taken to South County Hospital as a precaution, but avoided serious injuries following a head-on collision involving a utility pole early Saturday morning.

Fire officials confirmed Monday that members of the Charlestown-Richmond Fire Department and Charlestown Ambulance Rescue Service were called to Narrow Road shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday for reports of a crash.

According to officials, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the area of Oak Hollow Lane and struck a utility pole, causing damage to both the pole and car. The driver sustained only minor injuries, officials indicated, but was taken to South County Hospital as a precaution. The car was later towed from the scene.

The name of the driver was not released. National Grid was notified and repaired the pole on Saturday morning.
