A Johnston man is facing drug charges after state police seized 238 fentanyl pills, 39 mature marijuana plants, two firearms and cash in a search of his home Wednesday.
Members of the Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force arrested the man, 24-year-old Taylor Rego, on charges of possession of more than 1 ounce of fentanyl, two counts of possession of between 1 and 5 kilograms of marijuana, possession of fentanyl with the intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, and two counts of possession of a firearm while committing controlled substance violations.
Rego was arraigned in Third Division District Court after his early morning arrest and was ordered held without bail.
According to police and court records, the task force obtained a search warrant after investigating reports that Rego was dealing fentanyl. The task force obtained court-authorized search warrants which were served at Rego's 839 Sanderson Road home in Johnston.
In addition to the mature plants and pills, the search yielded 19 pounds of marijuana, 22 seedlings, $2,000 in cash, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a Glock Model 17 9 mm pistol, and ammunition, the police said.
The task force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and includes six local departments, the state Adult Correctional Institutions-Special Investigations Unit, and several federal agencies.
