WESTERLY — An accident along Church Street caused minor delays for motorists on Tuesday afternoon after a car crashed into a utility pole, snapping it near base.

Dunn's Corners firefighters, police and Westerly Ambulance personnel were called to the area of 15 Church St. in Bradford, directly in front of the Bradford Elementary School, for reports of a crash with people trapped in the car.

Officials arrived to find the occupants, two adults, were free of the car. Both were evaluated at the scene, but did not appear to have suffered injuries and declined treatment, fire officials said. Their names were not released.

A portion of the road was closed during the afternoon to allow for pole replacement, resulting in several power outages in the neighborhood, officials said. Workers with National Grid were on site by 2 p.m. and were expected to complete work on Tuesday.
