WESTERLY — Local police charged two men following a fight at Junk and Java last week that spilled into the parking lot. The men, Chad T. Raiche, 22, and Vincent J. Federico, 28, both of Westerly, were charged Friday with disorderly conduct and released on a promise to appear in Fourth Division District Court later this month.

Customers at the Beach Street coffee house said the fight occurred at 11 .m. on Sept. 3. Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey said the owners, who were not present, expressed concern that the police had not been notified.

An investigation determined that Federico was at the coffee shop with a University of Rhode Island police officer when he was approached by Raiche. The men knew each other. They argued and the dispute became physical, with several items "knocked over" in the coffee shop, the police said. The URI officer and his girlfriend, an employee of Junk and Java, pushed the men out the front door and they briefly continued fighting outside. Neither man wished to press assault charges, the police said.
