With cold weather finally here, what sounds better than a nice, hot bowl of soup? Westerly Senior Center will be holding a Soup Night on Friday, Jan. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. George Routhier will be preparing homemade pizza soup, clam chowder, Canadian pea soup (which uses yellow peas), and German pork omelet soup. Bread, crackers, dessert, coffee, and teas will be included.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. They are now available at the center office.

Bea Smith’s will be holding a Special Event truckload sale at the senior center on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may save up to 75 percent off Alfred Dunner, Rafael, Mackintosh, handbags, and many more fashion items. Join your friends for a fashionable fun day of browsing, buying, and good times with Bea Smith’s, your "traveling fashion store.” Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express, and cash are accepted.

Ted Cercena offers 8-week basic computer lessons for seniors who would like to learn beginning computer skills, especially to go on the internet or send e-mails. The center’s computer lab has Microsoft 10 laptops. Classes are small and are held once a week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, depending on the demand. The cost is $18 for the course.

If you are interested in taking the course, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the center office. Please add your name and telephone number, and indicate whether you are interested in Tuesday or Wednesday classes at 1 or 2:30 p.m. You will receive a call when a new course is starting.

Watch for new trips for 2019. We will be posting them in the newsletter, in this column, and on the bulletin board outside the center office. We do not schedule trips during the winter months because the weather is unpredictable. If a travel company cancels, you will receive a refund or the trip will be rescheduled. If you cancel, you do not receive a refund, you do not receive a refund because restaurants, theaters, etc. have been prepaid.
