It’s that time of year again for filing your income taxes! Once again the AARP Tax Aides will be helping Westerly area residents prepare their taxes. Services will be available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on a “first-come first-served” basis. Sign-ups for appointments will not be taken until 8:30 a.m. so there is no need to be here at 7 or 7:30.

Please be sure to gather all the materials that you need for filing. Everyone will need to bring a form of picture I.D., their Social Security card, 2017 tax return (if you filed one). You will need your W-2 forms, 1099 forms, SSA-1099 for Social Security benefits, or any other form of income. For deductions or filing itemized deductions, you will need form 1098 for mortgage interest, health or dental insurance expenses, real estate and personal property taxes, and any other materials that affect your taxes. If you plan to direct deposit your return, be sure to bring your checkbook or your savings account number.

To be sure of what you need to bring and to see if the tax aides can file your taxes, there are two information sheets posted on the bulletin board outside the main office and on the back bulletin board.

The center is once again sponsoring “Fill the Center with Love.” In honor of Valentine’s Day, the center will be selling paper hearts to hang around the center. People may purchase hearts to leave messages for one or ones they love or would like to leave a message.

The center cookbook has finally arrived. Dale Quattromani’s hard work has produced a fun book of recipes from many of the center members and their families. To purchase a book for $10, you may stop at the center office or the director’s office.

For those individuals who wish to use the services of Joe Mazza, who provides Italian services, he will be at the center on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. He can help with pensions, social services, disability, and other services.
