Lucy Hargraves

To keep a tradition going, I am once again writing my own version of the classic "A Visit from St. Nicholas"  also known as ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. My apologies to Clement Vincent Moore.

'Twas just days before Christmas and all through the Center,

“Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!” greeted all who did enter.

The sounds of holiday spirit hung in the air

And peals of laughter and song our members did hear.

Stockings were hung of red and of green

Creating a bright Christmas holiday scene.

Dear Edie from her office said to Sally and Sandy,

“Our volunteers today to serve will have to be handy.

We’ve one hundred diners and eighty-four meals,

Now I know exactly how old Santa Claus feels.

To answer the requests of every good girl and boy.

To feed all these diners would bring me great joy.”

Donna solved the problem with her skill quickly,

With the assistance of Sue, Fred, and Ricky.

Enjoying their dinner, everyone did cheer

As Mrs. Claus gave a wave. What a dear!

Round and round the mealsite the dear volunteers did speed,

All the seniors they soon did feed.

Meanwhile Jerry, the van did drive through the town

Getting last minute shoppers to their chores safe and sound.

While Dave and Jim in the woodshop their projects were completing,

Cheering the deadlines that they were meeting.

Winnie and Elizabeth, in the office did say, “Trip payment? Paying your dues?”

Peg and Pam piped up, “Sell you stamps? Is that all for you?”

The telephone was ringing; Lucy’s computer was printing,

And Nichole round the Center was sprinting.

Saying, “RIPAE? I do that! Medicare D, what help do you need?

For your prescription plan December 7th was the deadline to heed.”

As 4:30 Friday arrived, Don, the director did say,

“I’m looking forward to sleeping late for four days”

“From the Board of Directors, from the staff, from one and all,

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year! I think that covers it all.”

From the Board, staff, and members of the Westerly Senior Citizens Center, happy holidays and best wishes for a happy, healthy 2019. The Center will be open Wednesday through Friday this week and Wednesday through Friday next week.
