New Traffic Pattern

Hopkinton: Motorists are experiencing an alternating one-way traffic pattern controlled by a temporary traffic signal for bridge work 24 hours per day on Mechanic St. North and South, under the I-95 overpass.


Charlestown/Richmond: Motorists are experiencing an alternating one-way traffic pattern controlled by temporary traffic signals, for bridge work, 24 hours a day on Rte. 112 North and South, from Butter Lane to Carolina Mill Lane. Expect delays.

Hopkinton/Richmond: Rte. 91 (Church St.) East and West at the Wood River Bridge, shoulder closures with a double lane shift for bridge work, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Fall 2018.

West Greenwich: Rte. 3 East and West, from Burnt Sawmill Rd. to Kitts Corner Rd., travel lanes reduced from 4 to 2 and eastbound and westbound traffic shifted to the west side of the Big River Bridge for construction through December 2018.

West Greenwich: Rte. 102 (Victory Hwy.) North and South, over I-95 at the Victory Hwy. Bridge, lane shift and shoulder closures remain in place for construction, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Interstate Highway Restrictions

I-295/Rte. 6 Bridge Rehabilitation

As part of the I-295/Rte. 6 Bridge rehabilitation project, motorists are experiencing the following changes:

I-295 North and Rte. 6 West:Closure of the northbound service road. Access maintained to Exits 9A and 9C. Follow signed detour.

Closure of Exit 9B. Follow signed detour.

Lane restrictions from two to one on the ramp from Rte. 6 West to I-295 North. Delays anticipated.

I-295 South, Rte. 6 East and Rte. 6A (Hartford Ave.): Closure of the southbound service road. Access maintained to Exits 9C and 9A. Follow signed detour.

Minor delays anticipated on ramp from Rte. 6 East to I-295 South given closure of southbound service road.

Closure of on-ramp from Hartford Ave. West to I-295 South. Left turn access off Hartford Ave. to I-295 South used by Hartford Ave. East traffic.

Please note: At the new traffic pattern on I-295 South, make sure you stay on the highway for Exit 9A for Route 6 to Providence. Don’t take the first exit (9C), which is now Hartford Avenue only.

Temporary Exit Closures

I-195 Pawtucket: I-95 South at Exit 30, exit closed for bridge rehabilitation through mid-December. Follow signed detours.

Providence/East Providence: As part of ongoing repairs to the Washington Bridge Westbound, Exit 3 (Gano St.) off of I-195 West is closed through Fall 2019. Follow signed detour.

I-195 West Greenwich: I-95 South at Exit 5A, exit closed for overhead utility relocation, Mon. and Wed. night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Follow signed detour to 3A.


I-195 Cranston: I-95 North and South, from Exit 16 (Elmwood Ave.) North and Exit 16B (Elmwood Ave.) South to Huntington Viaduct Bridge, alternating lane closures for bridge painting, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Please note: the following access roads and ramps will be temporarily closed during this operation, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Access Rd. off I-95 South at Exit 16B; the ramp from I-95 South to Rte. 10 South toward Rte. 12 (Park Ave.); and the on-ramp from Rte. 10 North to I-95 South. Follow signed detours to the Reservoir Ave. interchange.

East Providence: I-195 East and West, from Exit 6 to the Horton Farm Bridge East and from the Mass. line to Pawtucket Avenue Bridge West, left lane closed for construction work, Sun.-Fri. night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-195 Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95 North, from Exit 2 to Exit 3, left lane closed for bridge work, Mon.-Thurs. nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Providence: I-295 North, from Park Ave. to Rte. 10 Overpass, alternating lane closures for construction work, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-195 Providence: I-95 North and South, between Eddy St. and Broad St., alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Mon.-Fri. night from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-195 Providence: I-95 (Louisquisset Bridge) North and South, from Exit 22 to Exit 24, alternating lane closures for bridge work, Mon. night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.


Cranston/Johnston: I-295 North and South, from Exit 7 to the Scituate Ave. Bridge overpass, left lane closed for construction work, Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Johnston: I-295 North and South, from Scituate Ave. to Greenville Ave., alternating lane closures for bridge work, Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Johnston: I-295 North and South, from Exit 4 (Plainfield St.) to Exit 12 (Rte. 44), right shoulder closed in a moving operation for an installation of sign foundations, Mon.-Fri. from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

I-195 Providence: The previous traffic pattern with lane splits on I-95 North and South at Exit 19 has been modified, with all lanes now shifted to the left.

Providence/East Providence: I-195 West and East, from the Washington Bridge to the Mass. line, lane shifts in place.

Other Limited Access Highway Restrictions

6/10 Interchange Project

As part of the 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction Project, motorists are experiencing the following changes:

Effective Saturday, December 1, a lane shift will be in place with all traffic on Rte. 6 East shifted to the left just after the Hartford Ave. exit. Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be narrowed and located on the westbound side of the highway. Note: Lane closure are likely from 7 p.m. Friday, November 30 into Saturday morning to intall the new traffic pattern.

Rte. 6 East at Broadway, exit closed for construction for approximately 24 months. Follow signed detour.

Rte. 10 North, from Union Ave. to the Tobey St. overpass, traffic shifts to the temporary Rte. 10 North and temporary Westminster St. ramp for approximately 24 months.

Traffic shifts to the right on Rte. 6 West, from the Tobey St. overpass to Hartford Ave. for approximately 12 months.

One of two lanes closed on Westminster St. East, from Barton St. to Olneyville Square for approximately 12 months.

Traffic shifts on Broadway, from Barton St. to Olneyville Square for approximately 12 months.

Daytime work anticipated behind barrier at the 6/10 Interchange.
