Three people were seriously injured Saturday night in a wrong-way collision on southbound Interstate 95 near Exit 90 in Mystic. The state police, who were investigating, said it involved multiple vehicles.

The head-on collision occurred at about 6:15 p.m. and personnel from the Stonington-Mystic area and Westerly responded, along with hospital medics, and two Life Star helicopters, from Hartford and Norwich. Both helicopters landed on the highway, one at about 6:55 p.m. and the other at 7:08 p.m.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation said that  the southbound lanes were closed between Exits 90 and 91.

Emergency personnel attended to three of the occupants who had traumatic injuries, and two were flown from the scene.
