RICHMOND — Two people are facing charges of possessing ecstasy after police said they were found with a crystalized substance while in a car stopped for speeding at nearly twice the speed limit.
Sydney M. DeMartino, 18, of North Haven, Conn., and 18-year-old Jessica A. Thomas, of Warwick, were each taken into custody on Friday, according to a Richmond police report. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance and later released on a $3,000 personal recognizance, police said.
Richmond police said in a press release that the two women were passengers in a car that was stopped along Main Street for traveling 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The driver, who was not identified, was cited with speeding.
Further investigation led officers to find that both DeMartino and Thomas were in possession of a small amount of a crystalized substance. The substance was field tested and returned a positive result for MDMA, more commonly known as ecstasy.
The two were charged without further incident, police said.
