PROVIDENCE —Retail MarketPoint, a Westerly retail real estate technology company specializing in site location analytics, won the top prize at the annual Cox Business Get Started Rhode Island business pitch competition.

After besting five other finalists in the "Shark Tank"-style event, John Rafferty, founder of Retail MarketPoint, was awarded the $50,000 prize package, including $25,000 in cash, from Cox Business to help his business grow.

Get Started RI featured six entrepreneurs pitching their business and product ideas to a panel of experts. The event is intended to stimulate and support the small business sector in Rhode Island. Other finalists at the event were Uproot (Warren); Biotica Bio (Providence); Tank Vision, LLC (Providence); Furrfighters, LLC (Warren); and NetQter (Pawtucket).

This is the seventh annual Get Started contest in Rhode Island. Last year's winner was Medley Genomics, of  Providence.

The expert panel of judges, all CEOs, included Patrice M. Milos, Medley Genomics; Arnell Milhouse, CareerDevs Computer Science University; Karl Wadensten, VIBCO Vibrators; and Shannon Shallcross, BetaXAnalytics.
