WESTERLY — Walgreen Pharmacy/ Rite Aid will hold a flu clinic at the Westerly Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Pneumonia shots and tetanus shots (DPT) are also available. With most insurance plans, there is no cost. Forms are available at the center office to pre-register for the clinic so that the process will run smoothly and quickly. Registeration is also avaialble the day of the clinic.
If you had a shingles vaccination shot through Walgreens/ Rite Aid at the senior center, you will receive a call to go to Walgreens for your booster shot.
South County Health will offer a free course at the center on Thursdays, from Oct. 18 to Nov. 29, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The course is intended to assist people who need help managing pain, sleep, medications, or in meeting new people, becoming more active, and improving communications. Rhonda Brunero will teach the course. Call the senior center at 401-596-2404 to register. Participants who complete the course will receive a gift card.
The time for open enrollment is right around the corner. This is a time to review your Medicare supplemental policies and Medicare D. Nichole Woodward, our community information specialist, has been making appointments to review plans. In addition, the URI pharmacy program and Tri-Town Community Action will holding seminars to assist with Medicare D choices.
Blue Cross/ Blue Shield will hold three meetings in October. The first is Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m., for new enrollees in Blue Chip for Medicare. The second, at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, will be for current members who may wish to update their plan. The third, a Blue Cross session, will be Thursday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. for people who are turning 65 or retiring this year. Membership in the senior center is not a requirement for attendance. In November, more meetings will be held by Blue Chip, Blue Cross, and United/ AARP.
