Westerly Senior Center: Current and upcoming center activities and meetings

WESTERLY — The senior center’s Book Discussion Group will meet on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the shuffleboard room to discuss “My Antonia” by Willa Cather. New members are always welcome to join. You do not have to be a member of the senior center to attend.

The Red Hat Chicks will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at noon at the Cooked Goose on Watch Hill Road. Bring a hearty appetite and some stories of summer adventures. Call Nancy Milligan for reservations.

Sign-up sheets have been posted for floor and table shuffleboard. The meeting for floor shuffleboard will be held on Sept. 11 at 1:15 p.m., when teams will be picked and rules reviewed. Play will start on Sept. The meeting for table shuffleboard will be held on Sept. 18, and play will start on Sept. 25 and 26 at 9 a.m. Please indicate for table shuffleboard if you want to play on Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you have not gotten your Farmers Market coupons yet, they are still available at the Mealsite manager’s office. If you are a low-income Westerly senior 60 or older who meets the USDA guidelines and have not gotten these certificates this year, you may receive a booklet of three $5 certificates that may be used to buy local produce at any of the farmers’ markets, including the one to be held at the senior center on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m.

Applicants must appear in person to get the certificates, and a husband and wife may both receive these certificates.
