WESTERLY — Walgreen Pharmacy will hold a flu clinic at the Westerly Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Pneumonia shots and tetanus shots (DPT) are also available. With most insurance plans, there is no cost. Forms to pre-register are available at the center office. Registeration is also avaialble the day of the clinic.
The senior center annual Autumnfest will be held at the center on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 to 11 a.m. There will be four major events: a sausage and egg breakfast, the Penny Social, the bake sale, and the white elephant sale. George Routhier will be preparing a sausage and egg breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. They may be purchased at the center office or at the door.
The Penny Social, which is chaired by Peg Fraser and Elizabeth Johnson, features a variety of prizes that are great for Christmas gifts. They vary from the small, fun prizes to a microwave and gift cards/ certificates. Prizes will be displayed about a week before the Autumnfest and will be drawn at starting at 10:30 a.m. A bake sale will also be set up from 8 to 11 a.m. Members of the center will be contacted for donations of baked goods. Last, but not least, the craft room ladies will be setting up white elephant items from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Who knows what goodies will be available.
Senior ladies who would like companionship with women of their own age and eating out once a month are invited to join the Red Hat Chicks. There are no dues, and members do not have to be members of the senior center. Red hats and purple clothing are mandatory. At times, the group may get together at the senior center. The next lunch date, Tuesday, Oct. 9, will be held at Kelley’s Deli, 116 Granite St., at noon. Call Nancy Milligan and leave a message of whether you plan to attend or not.
