Peg Murphy-Bright and Richard "Dick" Bright of Westerly (holding certificate) received the Rhode Island Committee Award for outstanding performance, service and continuing support to the national defense. The award was presented on behalf of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) by Westerly resident Phil Albert, ESGR vice chairman; Kasim Yarn, the state director of veterans affairs; and Col. Lisa Merriwether of the Rhode Island Army National Guard and Reserve. The couple received the award for their ongoing support of men and women in uniform and, in particular, their son Capt. Murphy Bright, a U.S. Marine Corps reservist, and his team, who just returned from an arduous deployment in Afghanistan after losing three of their team members. Said the Brights, "We salute the memory of Sgt. Hendricks, Staff Sgt. Hines and Staff Sgt. Slutman."
