On June 1 Westerly residents Sarabeth McClain, left, and Lauren Anhalt, second from left, both seniors at The Prout School, were among the students honored at the 24th annual Italian Scholarship Dinner held by the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian.

The students will receive monetary prizes in recognition of their performance in the various association-sponsored award contests and on the American Association of Teachers of Italian National Italian Exam. McClain, who placed first in Rhode Island on the National Italian Exam, and Anhalt, who placed second, are pictured with their Italian teacher, Signora Trevisiol, center, and two other Prout award recipients.

This year, approximately 500 students from various schools across the state took the national exam.
