Ryan Arruda, a senior at Westerly High School, earned his Eagle Scout Badge by building a bridge. Ryan, son of Patricia and Joseph Arruda III of Westerly, is a member of Troop 16 Westerly, which meets at St Pius Church with Scoutmaster Felix Martinez. Ryan worked with Joseph MacAndrew, from the Westerly Conservation Commission, and his troop to build the bridge across a creek along the White Trail in the Westerly Town Forest. He met with MacAndrew to come up with a design, shopped for materials, organized his troop and volunteers to clear the path, and finally built the bridge. Older scouts assisted in carrying the wood into the forest to build the bridge on-site. Ryan’s Court of Honor will be held in March.
