Members of the Perryville Grange held a Community Service Night earlier this month, and since April is Grange Month, the organization presented awards to a number of deserving people in Washington County. Shown, from left, are 2019 Teacher of the Year Martha Dion, 2019 Firefighter of the Year Tyler Parks and Russell Partridge, executive director of the WARM Center in Westerly, who accepted the 2019 Community Service Group Award on behalf of the center. Grange members Kathy Stedman and Patricia Brow presented the awards.

Dion started her teaching career at Chariho and was the youngest chair and first female chair of the science department. She is also the youth director at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Charlestown.

Parks is a first lieutenant with the Tuckertown Fire Department and has completed all training requirements for the Union Fire District, earning the firefighter first class status. He helps provide fire emergency services, fire prevention programs and fire code enforcement for South Kingstown with his fellow firefighters.
