When Sophia Abruzzese, Carissa Conroy and Raegan Kiley, Girl Scouts in Troop 1288 who are working on their bronze award, wanted to help a local animal shelter, Troop Leader Colleen Abruzzese, reached out to Animal Control Officer Samantha Bowen of the Hopkinton Police Department to see if there might be a project for the scouts to tackle. The girls decided to beautify the front of the shelter.

With supplies donated by Pete Gardin, owner of Grandscapes in South Kingstown, the scouts worked with their shovels and rakes through the rain and created a landscape that has brightened the shelter’s appearance in more ways than one. Bowen said she could not be more thankful for the thoughtful donation and the hard work the girls put into helping the local shelter. “The girls worked very hard,” said Bowen.
