Heather Watkins-Shepherd

Heather Watkins-Shepherd of Pawcatuck was awarded the $1,500 Anna Coit Memorial Scholarship from The North Stonington Garden Club. A formal presentation of the award will take place at the club’s July 16 general meeting.

As a student at Stonington High School, Heather has pursued the study of environmental science in honors and Advanced Placement courses. In addition, she is involved in an internship at Hewitt Farm in North Stonington. This project involves creating a butterfly waystation to sustain monarchs with milkweed host plants as well as nectar plants for food during their arduous migration. This fall, Heather will continue her studies in environmental science at Simmons University in Boston. Each year, the garden club awards a scholarship to a candidate pursuing a higher degree in agriculture, conservation, environmental studies, horticulture, landscape design/architecture, plant science or a related field.
