As part of Dime Bank's 150th anniversary celebration, the bank has created a traveling exhibit of bank artifacts which will be on display at the bank's branches throughout the year. The photos, which give a glimpse of the exhibit, also feature Dime Bank President and CEO Nick Caplanson talking to Lisa Konicki, president of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, and Maria DiMaggio, membership and operations director Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, about the exhibit.
The bank was established on June 1, 1869, when the Connecticut Legislature approved the charter of Dime Savings Bank of Norwich. At the time, banking was not always available to the working classes. “Small savers” were shunned by commercial banks, so recognizing the importance of banking opportunities for all people in greater Norwich, a group of public-spirited businessmen established the new mutual savings bank. Dime established its first branch, in Ledyard in 1977. In 2016, the Westerly branch was opened on Franklin Street.
