WESTERLY — Glenn Kendzia, the Westerly songwriter and frontman of the alternative rock band Wild Sun, has something special in store for his local fan base.

A week from tonight, on Thursday, Aug. 15, Kendzia, who spent last winter playing and recording in Nashville, will share music from his upcoming debut solo album at an exclusive, intimate concert at the Malted Barley.

Kendzia said while the album won't be released until April 2020, he wanted to share his new and different music with local fans.

"People here have been so supportive," said Kendzia. "Everyone who attends will get a CD that night."

Kendzia said the album represents his "first dive" into music he describes as "folky" and "lush."

The album, which was recorded in Nashville last spring with producer Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell, Kacey Musgraves, Andrew Combs) is full of new sounds, he said, including a string quartet, a pedal steel guitar, and vintage keyboards.

Kendzia also plans to give a brief talk about recording the album and " and how you can help with that process now that the recording is complete."

"Think of it as a Kickstarter or Crowdfunding Campaign in person," he said.

Tickets are $15 at the door or in advance at themaltedbarleyri.net
