JOHNSTON — Maddie Faubert scored a pair of goals and Westerly High opened the Division II girls soccer season with a 6-0 win over Johnston on Wednesday.

Westerly led 4-0 at the half. Johnston never got a shot off in the game.

Diana Turano and Jackie Fusaro finished with a goal and an assist each. Rachel Dobson and Gia Keegan also scored for Westerly, and Jillian Octeau contributed an assist.

"For being a young team we made a lot of strides tonight," Westerly coach Jay Hudson said. "We cleaned up a lot of things, communicated well and passed the ball. We controlled the middle of the field. It was a total team victory."

Westerly outshot the Panthers, 15-0, and had 12 corner kicks.

Westerly next hosts the Lincoln School on Friday at 6 p.m.
