Wheeler roundup: Lions lose against Huskies

CLINTON, Conn. — The starting pitchers in Wednesday’s nonleague game between Wheeler High and the Morgan School combined to strike out 21 batters as the Huskies prevailed 5-0.

Morgan’s Emily Popp struck out 11 and Wheeler starter Jennifer Paride recorded 10 Ks. Both pitchers went the distance.

Paride was hurt by some errors as four of the five runs she surrendered were unearned. A Wheeler (0-1) error on a slow-roller in the first inning allowed two runs to score and Morgan (1-0) led 4-0 by the time the first was over. Paride allowed five hits in seven innings and walked two.

The Lions managed four hits, all singles, off Popp. Raven Houck, Paride, Kylie Baker and Samantha Muller all singled.

Wheeler returns to action on Friday at Plainfield at 4 p.m.
