Lions lose to Lancers

NORTH STONINGTON — Waterford led by double digits at the half and continued to build on that margin downing Wheeler High 49-24 in an out-of-division girls’ basketball game between ECC teams on Tuesday.

The Lancers (5-5) held Wheeler (2-7) to single digits in every quarter to coast to the comfortable win. Waterford led 26-13 at the half and 38-15 by the end of the third quarter.

Jess Muller led Wheeler with eight points and 11 rebounds. She also led the Lions with four steals.

Kylie Baker scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds for Wheeler.

Waterford’s Vanessa Kobyluck led all scorers with 19 points. She was the only player to score in double figures for either team.

The loss was the third in a row for Wheeler.

The Lions play next on Friday when they travel to ECC-Medium Plainfield for a 7 p.m. game.
