Bulldogs earn win No. 6


SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Westerly Middle’s girls’ cross country team improved to 6-1 with a 26-30 Southern Division win against Curtis Corner on Tuesday afternoon.

Randi Burr won the 1.8-mile race at Curtis Corner with a time of 11 minutes.

Gabriella Celico finished third in 12:36, Kata Cummings was fifth (13:09), Dakota Busch took eighth (13:48) and Sydney Walker finished ninth (13:51) for the Bulldogs in their final league meet.

Westerly is off until the state championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Goddard Park, Warwick 10 a.m.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Westerly finished its Southern Division dual meet season at 3-4 following Tuesday’s loss.

Matthew Walker paced Westerly’s five scorers, taking third. He ran the 1.8 miles in 12:36.

Richard Boylan was 18th (14:35), Dominic Johnson took 20th (14:47), Taber Gates was 26th (15:01) and John Walker finished 30th (15:26).

The Bulldogs will run in the state championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Goddard Park, Warwick, 10 a.m.

WESTERLY — Westerly fell below .500 with Tuesday’s Southern Division loss. The Bulldogs are 3-4-1.

Lauren Dobson and Emily Haik played solid throughout the game, said coach Sue Haik.

Westerly’s next game is Thursday at home against Curtis Corner at 3:30 p.m.
