Stonington roundup: Bears qualify for Class L meet


WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Three Stonington High swimmers advanced to the Class L championships during Saturday’s qualifying meet at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center.

Collin Esquirol, John Moody and Alex Orf will be competing in the Class L championships on Wednesday at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. The meets begins at 7:15 p.m. They swim for the Ledyard/Stonington co-op team.

The top 24 finishers in Saturday’s qualifying event make the championship meet.

Esquirol qualified in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.86 seconds. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team that finished 12th (1:50.57) and the 13th place 400 freestyle relay (3:42.30).

Moody qualified in the 100 backstroke (1:01.53) and the two relays.

Orf qualified in the two relays.
