Bears take eighth in Class S


NEW MILFORD, Conn. — Stonington High’s gymnastics team finished sixth in the beam and eighth overall at the Class S gymnastics meet Saturday at Pomperaug High.

It was Stonington’s best showing on an apparatus at the meet. Stonington compiled a score of 28.55 on the beam.

Those contributing to the vault score were Paige Hackey (7.35), Megan Roberts (7.2) and Grace McCarthy and Hannah Capizzano with 7.0s.

Stonington finished eighth among the eight teams with 111.25 points. Woodstock Academy was first with 150.20.

The Bears finished seventh on the floor exercise with a score of 30.75. Hackney led the way with an 8.15 followed by McCarthy at 8.1, Gabby Gooden (7.3) and Roberts (7.2).

Stonington was eighth in the vault with a 31.75. Scoring were Roberts (8.2), Hackey (8.15), McCarthy (8.1) and Gooden (7.3).

The Bears placed eighth in uneven bars at 20.2 as McCarthy (7.0) and Meredith Hallisey (6.2) led the way.

The meet ends Stonington’s season.
