BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Plainfield .......................66

Stonington ......................51

PLAINFIELD — The recent trend continued for the Bears — close at the half, not particularly close at the end.

Stonington (2-14, 1-7 ECC-Medium) trailed by just one point at the break, 27-26, but Plainfield outscored the Bears 19-8 in the third quarter to take a 12-point lead.

Stonington never got it under 10 (midway through the fourth quarter). After that the Bears had to foul and the Panthers made their free throws. Plainfield finished 21 of 26 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Amadi White led the Bears with 24 points, but no one else reached double-figures. He also led in rebounds with 16. Older brother Divante White had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Plainfield (6-8, 4-3 ECC-Medium) had four players scored in double-figures. Ryan Pambuku led with 18.

It’s the fourth game in a row where the Bears were close at halftime. They were ahead of Killingly by five points but lost by 14, they were down one to Waterford and lost by nine, and they trailed Montville by three en route to a 15-point setback.

Stonington’s next game is Tuesday at home against high-flying New London at 7 p.m.
