Bears help team past NL


GROTON — Stonington High swimmers won four individual events for Ledyard/Stonington to help the team beat New London 52-21 in an ECC dual meet on Wednesday at the UConn Avery Point pool.

Several others swam in two winning relays. The rest of the events saw the Stonington contingent and Ledyard teammates swimming exhibition.

The team improved to 5-1, 4-1 ECC. New London dropped to 0-4, 0-4 ECC.

Alex Green won the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 1 minute, 0.02 seconds. Stonington teammate Alex Orf was faster swimming exhibition with a time of 59.96.

Orf won the 200 free in 2:11.02. Sarah Morrison won the 200 individual medley in 2:40.00.

Dylan LaPoint won the 100 butterfly race in 1:37.22. Stonington teammates Jesse Aaron and Meghan Talbot were faster swimming in exhibition with times of 1:23.99 and 1:29.63, respectively.

Orf, LaPoint and Amy Bridgham were the Stonington members of the winning 200-free relay team that won that race in 2:00.82. Morrison and Gaby Fabian swam on the exhibition quartet that clocked 1:55.97.

Stonington’s Jacob Aubrecht and John Moody joined two Ledyard teammates to win the 200-medley relay with a combined time of 2:14.49.

Ledyard/Stonington competes next at the Windham/RHAM/Coventry team on Friday at 4 p.m. Ledyard/Stonington won 96-72 at home on Jan. 7.
