Middle school: Westerly girls top Curtis Corner in cross country

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Westerly Middle put all five of its scorers in the top seven and beat Curtis Corner, 25-30, in a middle school girls cross country meet Wednesday.

Kaya West was the first Westerly runner across the line on the 1.8-mile course at Curtis Corner in 12:11, good for third place.

Other scorers for Westerly were Mia Campbell (fourth, 12:27); Erin vonHousen (fifth, 12:31); Celia Dauphinais (sixth, 13:33); and Brooklyn Manfredi (seventh, 13:36). Westerly improved to 5-0.

Curtis Corner won the boys race. Scorers for Westerly were Tim Fagan (11th, 12:32); Nick Cozzolino (12th, 12:32); Matt Morrone 15th (12:39); Hayes Goodman (20th,13:04); and Andrew Pietraszka (22nd, 13:07). Westerly dropped to 1-4.

Westerly travels to Exeter-West Greenwich on Tuesday. Jamestown will also be competing.
