MYSTIC — Newport’s Kameron Misner hit a walk-off grand slam in the first game and homered in the second as the Gulls swept the Mystic Schooners in a New England Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader at Fitch High Sunday.

Misner’s slam gave the Gulls a 5-2 win. Newport (9-16) won the second game, 6-3.

Mystic dropped to 13-11 with the losses and is now tied with Danbury for second place in the Southern Division. They trail first-place Ocean State by six games.

Misner, a sophomore at the University of Missouri, finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs in the first game. In the second game, he was 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Andruw Gazzola was 2 for 3 with a double for Mystic in the first loss. Ryan Ramiz and John Trousdale drove in runs.

Reliever Mike Appel took the loss in the seven-inning game.

In the second game, Mystic’s Tommy Jew homered twice and drove in three runs. Kaleb Foster finished 2 for 3.

Mystic starter Ronald Grant took the loss striking out four before leaving in the fourth inning.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Matt Cogen scored on an error with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Ocean State Waves past the Schooners Saturday night at Old Mountain Field.

Cogen, a Belmont University product, singled with one out against Schooners reliever Turner French (St. John’s), who had just entered the game. Cogen advanced to second on a balk and reached third on a wild pitch. After a walk and a strikeout, Cogen came home on an error by shortstop John Trousdale (Alabama).

The loss spoiled a nice comeback by the Schooners (13-9, second place Southern Division), who trailed 5-0 through five innings before tying it at 5-all in the seventh.

Ocean State (18-5, first place Southern Division) has won three straight.

Trousdale finished 3 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Nick Mascelli (Wagner) and Tommy Jew (UC Santa Barbara) each had two hits, Phil Capra (Wagner) drove in two runs, and Ryan Solomon (Northeastern) hit a solo home run.

The Schooners play the Newport Gulls in an away-home doubleheader on Sunday. The first game — a makeup of Friday’s rained-out game — starts at 4 p.m. at Cardines Field in Newport; the second is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Fitch High in Groton.
