Middle school: Albamonti delivers game-winning hit


WESTERLY — Meghan Albamonti singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Westerly Middle rallied for a 6-5 Southern Division softball win against Exeter-West Greenwich on Friday.

Westerly trailed throughout the game including 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Amanda Barrese singled home Victoria Carreiro with the tying run with one out. Carreiro singled and Maya Legare reached on a bunt single prior to Barrese’s hit.

Cassidy Northup followed with a single loading the bases. Albamonti then hit her game-winning single still with only one out in the inning.

Westerly (2-1, 2-1 Southern Division) had nine hits.

Barrese and Albamonti hit inside-the-park home runs for the Bulldogs, who play at Curtis Corner on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.

Exeter-West Greenwich is 1-2, 1-2 Southern Division.
