WESTERLY — The Westerly U12 boys Classic Gold team beat Middletown on penalty kicks, 3-2, to win its Vincenzo Nigro Memorial Soccer Tournament’s divisional championship in dramatic fashion Saturday.
The game was tied 3-3 after regulation and a 5-minute sudden death playoff period. Blake Busch, Michael Imbriglio and Sam Luzzi each scored on their penalty kick for Westerly. Leading up to the championship, Westerly beat Stonington, 3-0; Middletown, 3-2; and Ledyard, 2-1.
Luzzi scored four goals and added two assists during the tournament for Westerly. Sean Rafferty had two goals and three assists. Sebastian Reisch scored two goals, and Busch, Colby Makin and Nathaniel Ober scored one goal each. Busch and Imbriglio added one assist apiece.
Other outstanding players for Westerly were goalkeeper Chas Morgan, defenders Aiden Faubert and Davide Allen, and forwards Sammy Intrieri and Nico Serluca.
