Stefanski, Bedard help LP Seniors win

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Troy Stefanski put Ledyard-Pawcatuck’s Senior American Legion baseball team in front to stay with a home run and it went on to defeat Willimantic 5-2 Tuesday in the first game of a three-game series.

Stefanski homered in the top of the first inning, scoring Nate Storey as LP jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Storey had reached on a fielder’s choice.

Storey scored again in the third making it 3-0. He was hit by a pitch, advanced to second when Stefanski walked and scored on a single by Jordan Kowalski.

Willimantic pulled within 3-2 in the bottom of the third against winning pitcher Bryce Bedard but got no closer. Bedard scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out 10 to even his record at 2-2.

LP tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth to improve to 8-12 overall and 7-12 in Zone 6.

John Moody led off the fourth with a double and scored on a Connor Gilbert single.

Kavan Jakuba singled in the sixth, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Knowles.

The second game of the series is today at Stonington High, 7 p.m.
