Mystic 9-10s cruise into best-of-3 semis


NEW LONDON — Mystic’s 9-10 All-Star team downed Pawcatuck’s 9-10 team 14-0 in the semifinal round of the District 10 tournament on Tuesday.

The game lasted three and a half innings before it was stopped by the mercy rule. Mystic moves on and will face Waterford in a best-of-three series for the District 10 title.

Mystic plated 13 runs in the first inning to break the game open from the start.

For Pawcatuck, Wynn Hammond doubled and Nate Cote had a bunt single. Pawcatuck is eliminated from the tournament and finishes with a 3-2 record.

Mystic’s details of the game were not reported Tuesday night.

Westerly Juniors............... 1

EXETER — Westerly was eliminated from the District 3 Junior tournament with Tuesday’s losers’ bracket loss.

Exeter-West Greenwich broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Westerly (0-2) plated its only run in the top of the seventh.

Harrison Chagnon singled home Brendan Clays to account for Westerly’s run.

Ben Tripp doubled twice for Westerly and James Pedersen contributed a single.

Tripp pitched five innings and kept Westerly in the game for most of the way. He struck out four.

Chariho 9-10s ................. 15

S. Kingstown National .... 3

HOPE VALLEY — Chariho stayed alive in the District 3 tournament losers’ bracket with a mercy-rule win over South Kingstown National at Dow Field on Tuesday.

Zachary Boschwitz hit an inside-the-park home run that rolled to the right-field fence in an eight-run bottom of the third inning for Chariho. The home run came with two runners on base.

The game ended after South Kingstown batted in the top of the fourth. Chariho plated four runs in the first, three in the second and eight in the bottom of the third.

Tyler White was the winning pitcher. White threw the first two innings and Mason Emery pitched the final two in relief.

Chariho opened the 9-10 district tourney with a win over North Kingstown before falling to East Greenwich. Chariho is scheduled to play another losers’ bracket game on Saturday, against South Kingstown American.

Salem/Bozrah ................ 13

North Stonington 9-10s ... 2

EAST LYME — Salem/Bozrah won in four innings due to the mercy rule in Tuesday’s Pool B game in the District 10 All-Star tournament.

North Stonington fell to 0-3 in Pool B play and concludes pool play with a game against Pawcatuck at East Lyme on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
