WESTERLY — The Westerly Connie Mack baseball team opened its season with a 14-1 loss to Warwick at Cimalore Field Wednesday night.
Jake Garro was the losing pitcher but only allowed four hits in five innings. Garro struck out six and walked one. He allowed five runs, one was earned.
Warwick broke open a 5-0 game with nine runs in the sixth. Westerly committed six errors in the game.
Justin Algiere, Joey Baldini, Drew Turnbull and Connor McGill all singled to account for Westerly’s four hits.
Westerly returns to action Saturday morning against Chariho at Cimalore Field at 10 a.m.
STONINGTON — Waterford pulled away from Ledyard-Pawcatuck on Thursday and completed a Zone 6 three-game sweep.
Waterford broke on top 4-0 in the top of the first inning and L-P responded with three in the bottom of the second.
Connor Gilbert singled home Ryan Francis with the first L-P run. Francis started the inning with a walk. Bryce Bedard was hit by a pitch and Brenden Gayowski singled to load the bases.
Bedard scored when Elish Benoit walked with the bases loaded and Gayowski scored on a wild pitch that made it 4-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, down 14-3, John Moody singled home Benoit, who had singled, with the final L-P run.
Ledyard-Pawcatuck (1-3, 0-3 Zone 6) plays a doubleheader against Tri-Town on Saturday at Tourtellotte Memorial High. The first game starts at 3 p.m.
