Amateur baseball: WFP tops Avengers


WESTERLY — Kaelan Rayner pitched eight innings and allowed just two hits helping White Fire Protection to a 7-0 win against the RI Avengers Tuesday night in a Rhode Island Independent Amateur Baseball League game at Cimalore Field.

Rayner struck out four and walked six.

WFP scored four runs in the fourth. Mike Jason reached on an error and Nick Benoit singled moving Jason to third. Benoit stole second and Bryce Curran singled home both Jason and Benoit. Curran went to second on the throw to the plate.

Curran scored on a RBI single to left field by JJ Sorensen. Sorensen went to second on the throw home and scored on two passed balls.

Adam Northup scored a run in the fifth on a passed ball.

Curran hit a two-run double in the eighth scoring Jon Gauvin and Jason. They had each singled earlier in the inning.

WFP travels to Exeter tonight for a 7:30 game with Cornerstone Pub.
