Chariho roundup: Gencarelli takes first at JV states

WARWICK — Chariho High’s Stephen Gencarelli won the 1,500 meters and took second in the 3,000 at the junior varsity state track meet Tuesday at Bishop Hendricken High.

Gencarelli won the 1,500 in 4 minutes, 18.2 seconds and ran a 9:21.50 in the 3,000.

Chariho’s 4x800 relay team of Kyle Keefe, Ed Golas, Mark Coppa and Brennan Reynolds placed fifth in 9:05.00.

Chariho placed ninth among the 29 teams that scored with 20 points. Bishop Hendricken won the title with 111 points.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Chargers finish ninth

at JV state meet

PROVIDENCE — Chariho High’s Haley Duscha placed second in the high jump at the junior varsity state track meet at Mt. Pleasant High Tuesday.

Duscha jumped 4 feet, 7 inches.

Caroline Duksta placed third in the javelin and Natalie Keefe did the same in the 3,000. Duksta turned in a throw of 81 feet, 9 inches. Keefe covered the 3,000 meters in 11 minutes, 34.70 seconds.

Chariho’s 4x800 relay team of Duksta, Pam Lelli, Keefe and Wallbillich was second in 10:43.40.

Kerry Wallbillich placed sixth in the 1,500 in 5:18.40.

Chariho was tied for eighth in the team standings among the 27 teams with 29 points. North Kingstown took first with 80.
