PROVIDENCE — Westerly High’s Jackie Burr won an event and the 4x800 relay team finished first at the Mt. Pleasant Performance meet Saturday.
Burr took first in the 1,500 in 4 minutes, 46.20 seconds, her second best performance of the season. She ran a 4:41.90 at the Southern Division meet on May 14.
The 4x800 relay turned in a time of 9:59.10, also its second best showing of the season. T
he team of Charlotte Andrus, Abby Murdock, Maddy McLaughlin and Julie Senior had a combined for a 9:57.90 at the Southern Division meet.
No other Westerly athletes finished in the top six.
WARWICK — Westerly High’s Clayton Minnich finished second in the long jump and Jon Jacobs did the same in the discus at the 50th annual Hendricken Invitational Saturday.
Minnich leaped 20 feet, ¼ inch. He was about 16 inches behind Dave Balony of Hope ,who had a 21-4½.
It was the second time this season Minnich has exceed ed 20 feet. He turned in a 20-½ at the Schomp Invittional on May 3.
Jacobs had a throw of 144 feet, 11 inches, about 7 feet less that the winning throw from Stefan Balestra of Lincoln.
It was Jacobs second best performance of the season. He threw a 146-4 in a league meet on May 5.
Westerly was 12th among the 30 teams that scored with 16 points.
Max Miller was fourth in the 1,500 meter freshman race in 4:35.30.
Justin Senior, John Bertsch, Alex Toscano and Brandon Rathbun were third in the freshman/sophomore sprint medley in 4:06.30.
The Bulldogs will travel to Hendricken on Tuesday for the JV state meet at 10:30 a.m.
Westerly’ varsity will compete in the state meet Saturday at Brown University in Providence at 12:30 p.m.
