WESTERLY — White Fire Protection scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth ining and evened its record at 2-2 with a 10-6 Rhode Island Independent Amateur League victory against Spartan Trap Tuesday night at Cimalore Field.
Tyler Newell and Ben Rice started the inning with singles. Each runner moved up on a wild pitch and Adam Northup delivered a two-run single. Jon Gauvin walked and Mike Jason singled to load the bases. Jason scored on a Bryan Curran fielder’s choice.
Kaelan Rayner earned the win in his season debut. He went six innings and allowed five runs, none near. Rayner allowed three hits and struck out eight.
Bryan Curran earned the save in three innings of relief work. He allowed three hits, walked one and had two strikeouts.
Tyler Newell finished 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Curran was 2 for 5 with three RBIs. with 3 RBI. JJ Sorensen was 2 for 5 with a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI.
Eight of the nine WFP batter had at leas one eight.
White Fire returns to action tonight at Cimalore Field to take on Dean’s Warehouse. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
