  • Patient Denton gets first Speedbowl victory

    WATERFORD — Hope Valley’s Garrett Denton picked up his first win of the season at the Waterford Speedbowl, taking the 25-lap Mini Stock feature Saturday night.

    Denton was patient following the only caution of the race, which came on lap-9, behind Ian Brew of Wood River Junction and Groton’s Ray Christian. Denton eventually got past both on the inside to lead lap-14 and cruised the rest of the way to the win.

    Lisbon’s Ken Cassidy Jr. was second and Brew placed fourth. Charlestown’s Dale Sherman finished 13th.

    In other action Saturday Kyle James of Ashaway took fifth in the SK Modified 35-lap feature. Berlin’s Keith Rocco won the race.

    A couple of locals finished near the front of the pack in the Wild ‘n Wacky X-car race with Stonington’s Rich Nye taking second and Westerly’s Randy Johnston in third.New London’s Zach Thomas won the 25-lap race.
