Bolton man wins Donahue Memorial


PAWCATUCK — Bruce Christenson of Bolton, Conn. won Tuesday’s Steven E. Donahue Memorial 3-mile road race.

Christenson finished the 3-mile course in 18 minutes and 52 seconds to lead the field of 95 runners.

Several locals placed among the top finishers with three Pawcatuck runners finishing in the top-five. Chase Carnot finished in second place in 19:50, Jim Tiernan was third in 20:52 and Zach Schroder ran fourth in 21:24.

Rounding out the top-10 were Mystic’s Phillip Plouffe (sixth in 22:03), Pawcatuck’s Owen Donahue (seventh, 22:15), North Stonington’s Jeff Rose (eighth, 22:23), Pawcatuck’s Paul Gray (ninth, 22:24) and Mystic’s Christian McGugan (10th, 22:30). Pawcatuck’s Andrew Williams was the last runner to finish in less than 23 minutes, placing 11th in 22:52.

Stonington’s Laura Gallicchio was the top female runner and the 12th overall finisher. Gallicchio finished in 23:13. Westerly’s Kate Ficarra was the first Rhode Island finisher, placing 13th in 23:15.

Pawcatuck’s Liz Gray took 15th in 23:50. Pawcatuck’s Pam Schroeder placed 18th in 23:59, Mystic’s Chelsea Woods was 19th in 24:02 and North Stonington’s Ju Lee Swanson rounded out the top-20 with a time of 24:04.

Local runners placing 21-26 were Carol Ann Gray (Pawcatuck) in 21st in 24:04, followed by Mystic’s Laura Hoinsky (22nd, 24:08), Pawcatuck’s Spring Cole (22nd, 24:08), Pawcatuck’s Jennifer Deary (24th, 24:58), Pawcatuck’s Tyler McKenna (25th, 25:09) and Pawcatuck’s Torin McKenna (26th, 25:20).

Holland Woods (29th, 26:03) and Hannah York (30th, 26:03), both of Pawcatuck, rounded out the top-30 finishers.

Local runners to place 31-40 were Pawcatuck’s Helene Donahue (31st, 26:19), Mystic’s Jennifer Apes (32nd, 26:20), Mystic’s Christine McGugan (33rd, 26:26), Pawcatuck’s Heidi Chronister (34th, 26:27), Stonington’s Sharon Riley (36th, 26:33), Mystic’s Erik Inomundson (37th, 26:48), North Stonington’s Peggy Pelland (38th, 26:59) and Pawcatuck’s Chris Donahue (40th, 27:03).
