SMITHFIELD — Jenna Brierly and Paige Pajarillo combined for nine goals as Chariho High cruised to a Division III-South 17-7 girls’ lacrosse victory against Smithfield Tuesday.
Brierly, who leads the team with 25 goals, finished with five against the Sentinels. Pajarillo contributed four and has 18 for the season. She also assisted on two goals.
Chariho led 10-1 at the half.
Sam Oricari, Patience Coombe and Abby Cuddy finished with two goals each. Oricari had two assists.
Megan Kirby and Izzy Rinne scored a goal each and Payton St. Lawrence added two assists.
Both teams finished with 22 shots. The Chargers had 12 at the half.
Chariho is now 4-1, 4-0 Division III-South. Smithfield dropped to 2-2-1 overall and in the league.
The Chargers hosts Scituate Friday at 3 p.m.
Martel misses cut
by one stroke
CRANSTON — Chariho High’s Sam Martel missed the cut at the Challenge Cup Championship Monday by one stroke at Alpine Country Club.
Martel, a senior, finished with an 12-over 84 over the 18 holes. Any player with an 83 or better advanced to the second day today.
Chariho shot 370 as a team. Others who contributed to the team score were Nick Chartier (89), Corey Zegarzewski (90) and Matt Lindenberg (107).
Teams had to shot 352 or better to make the second day. Ten of the 24 teams that competed made the second day. Xavieran Brothers of Massachusetts posted the top team score with a 320.
Jack Bauer of Portsmouth High turned in the best individual score with a 74.
Chariho hosts Prout Monday at Weekapaug Golf Club in Westerly at 3 p.m.
