WESTERLY — Westerly High pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and topped Pilgrim 8-5 in an Injury Fund baseball game Saturday at Cimalore Field.
The nonleague contest was tied at 5 after 5½ innings before the Bulldogs scored the three runs.
Bryce Lombardo started the fifth with a walk and stole second base. Kyle Allen singled him home. Kyle Gencarelli reached on a fielder’s choice and Cam Newell walked. Anthony Garro followed with a two-run single to give Westerly an 8-5 lead.
Blake Bartoszek pitched the first five innings allowing just three hits and one earned run.
“Blake did a really nice job on the mound today,” Westerly coach Bob Cahoone said. “He kept everybody off balance.”
Jake Garro,who pitched the sixth inning, earned the win. He allowed three runs, but none of them were earned.
Chris Lombardo finished 2 for 3 including a double in the fourth inning. Anthony Garro contributed three RBIs and Joey Baldini drove in a pair of runs. The Bulldogs finished with nine hits.
Pilgrim dropped to 1-1.
Westerly (2-1-1) took a 4-0 lead after four innings. But the Patriots sored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to tie it at 5.
Westerly returns to Division II-South play on Wednesday at West Warwick for a 4 p.m. game.
