Local briefs: Chariho record falls

High school

Chariho High’s 4x1 mile national record fell at the New Balance indoor nationals Saturday at The Armory in New York City. Three teams surpassed Chariho’s mark during the race. Christian Brothers of New Jersey finished first in 17 minutes, 7.17 seconds. Gig Harbor of Washington was second in 17:08.44 and Brentwood, Tenn. was third in 17:15.58. The Chariho foursome of Mike Marsella, Bryce Kelley, Dan Kilcoyne and Jake Kilcoyne ran a 17:20.20 in 2012 to establish the national mark.
