Bulldogs hold off Knights

WEST GREENWICH — Dave Tiedemann scored 17 points to lead Westerly Middle to a 49-46 win against Exeter-West Greenwich on Wednesday in a Southern Division game.

Tiedemann scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and hit three 3-pointers in that period as the Bulldogs held off the Scarlet Knights. Westerly led 33-29 going into the fourth quarter.

Taber Gates finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen Valentin scored eight.

Westerly improved to 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Southern Division.

Westerly hosts unbeaten Narragansett on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

WESTERLY — Isis Hamelin scored a team-high 15 points in Wednesday’s Southern Division win.

Hamelin added seven steals and six rebounds for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-6.

Westerly trailed Exeter 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, but used a strong second quarter to take a 22-11 lead into halftime.

Gabreilla Celico finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Lauren Dobson chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Westerly’s next game is on Monday at Curtis Corner Middle in South Kingstown at 3:45 p.m.

WESTERLY — Dominic Johnson scored a 6-second pinfall at 126 pounds to help Westerly to a Northern Division win on Tuesday.

Johnson was one of three Westerly wrestlers to win by pin in less than a minute.Jacob Shafer pinned in 44 seconds in the 140-pound match and Max Davis ended the 200-pound contest in 51 seconds.

Westerly’s Spencer Terranova pinned in 1:09 in the 159-pound match and Ethan Kader won at 112 with a pin in 1:04. Brady Holdredge pinned in 1:26 at 104 pounds.

Dominic Bonanno (82 pounds) and Shawn Moore (185) both won major decisions. Nayati Brown won a decision at 96 pounds and Ryan O’Donnel took a forfeit at 148.

Westerly’s next match is Friday at home against Kickemuit Middle School at 5:30 p.m.
