    Bears go on road for semis

    STONINGTON — Stonington High’s field hockey team will travel to Guilford for its Class S semifinal game on Tuesday.

    The Bears, which lost in the Class S title game last season, will take on Thomaston at 6 p.m.

    Stonington (16-2-0) advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 victory against Haddam-Killingworth in the quarterfinals. H-K had beaten Stonington in last year’s title game. Stonington, the No. 3 seed, opened the tournament with a 2-0 win against Old Saybrook.

    Thomaston (16-1-0-1) bedat Waterford 5-1 and Westbrooky 1-0 in the tourney.

    Stonington beat Waterford 8-0 and 3-0 this season. Thomaston, which plays in the Berkshire League, has 11 shutouts among its 16 victories, while the Bears have 14.

    No. 4 Northwest Catholic (15-2-1) and No. 9 Granby (13-5-0) plays in the other semifinal on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winners play at Wethersfield High on Saturday at a time to be determined.
