  • Denton gets victory

WATEFORD — Garrett Denton, of Hope Valley, won a special 25-lap Mini Stock Shootout event at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday to wrap up the racing season.

Denton took the early lead in this non-points race and powered ahead to a convincing advantage. Track champion Ken Cassidy Jr., of Lisbon, Conn., took second but was unable to run Denton down.

In the 50-lap SK Modifieds race, Kyle James of Ashaway jumped to the front and led through 33 laps. He was overtaken after a caution flag and restart on the next lap by eventual winner Keith Rocco, of Meriden, Conn.

James wrecked out of second position on lap 38 when he made contact with a retaining wall and left the race with suspension damage. He placed 15th in the race and sixth in the unofficial final point standings.

Rich Staskowski, of Hope Valley, finished fifth in the 50-lap Late Models race and fourth in the unofficial final point standings.
